Please note: This course is taught in local units (listed below), rather than unit standards. Local units are written by the institute. They are not available from the NZQA framework however the overall course is definitely NZQA accredited. Students will receive an SIT qualification/transcript with a list of units, levels and credits to use alongside their NZQA Record of Achievement.
HSC101 - Normal human structure and function in a health context (5 credits)
Covers the structure and function of ten major body systems.
HSC102 - Abnormal human structure and function in a health context (5 credits)
This covers abnormal structure and function of the human system, complementary philosophies, and a range of health care interventions.
PEH103 - Human Biology (6 credits)
This unit is similar to HSC101, however includes other areas of the human body.
PEH104 - Scientific notations and units (3 credits)
Covers System International (SI) units of measurement and derived units used in a laboratory, calculations of quantities and use of formulas to solve scientific problems.
PEH105 - Safe laboratory practices (3 credits)
Covers Health and Safety Employment Act as it relates to a laboratory, extensive knowledge of a variety of chemical hazards, and safety requirements in a laboratory.
PEH106 - Health care ethics (5 credits)
Covers consumer rights and ethical behavior in a health care context.
PEH107 - Health care teamwork skills (3 credits)
Covers professional relationships between health care practitioners within and between mainstream and complementary healthcare profession as well as group processed within a health care context.
PEH108 - Mathematics (11 credits)
Covers basic calculations, fractions, conversions and problem solving questions.
If you wish to do further study in the Health Science Intermediate Level 4 and you complete HSC 101 and 102 in pre-entry, these can be cross-credited into the Intermediate course.
